In 1947, Marc’s father started a personal lines insurance agency and in 1971, he purchased an additional insurance agency to provide a start for his brother who was just graduating from college. After graduating from Lansing Community College in 1972, Marc went on to obtain his license and join the family insurance business following his father and brother.

Ten years later, Schillinger went on to negotiate a book of personal lines business owned by Michigan Mutual Insurance Company and managed by a retiring local agent. The book was added to the Irma Wagner Agency and the name was changed to Schillinger & Schillinger, Inc. The name still remains today.

S&S had been a personal lines agency until 1991 when the agency became involved in providing specialized insurance coverages for railroad contractors. In 1995, the agency became more involved with small commercial trucks and insuring small service-type vehicles used by railroad contractors and short line freight railroads.

By 2002 Marc had personally written a substantial volume of business with Progressive. Later, direct and brokerage contracts were acquired with AIG, Canal, Chubb, Colony, Fireman’s Fund, Grange, Great American, Great West Casualty, Hartford, Lancer, Lloyds of London, National Casualty, National Indemnity, Northland, Scottsdale, and Sentry, and more are being added.
